When we think about accessorizing your room, we want to be careful not to clutter your space. Instead, use a few well-chosen and placed items to enhance your space and reflect your personal style.
This can be accomplished by utilizing texture, grouping and colour.
Texture: A variety of textures such as rough, flat, matte along with reflective ones create diversity and depth. Adding a mirror, clear glass vase or mercury glass accent is a great way to lighten up a room full of rough textures.
Conversely, adding a natural fibre rug or throw can soften the look of sleek chrome and glass furniture.
Grouping: A good trick to remember is to arrange objects together in groups. When doing so think about using an odd number and mixing varying heights of items. Additionally, you will want to consider the scale of items you are working with. Your arrangements should not be too large or small for the surface you are putting it on. A well placed item can anchor a look when surrounded by objects of varying size. Small items may even be placed on a tray to give them a collective presence. Another tip is to group items that share a common characteristic together. This may be a colour, texture, or finish. Go ahead and show off your collections.
Use an Accent Colour: The clever use of an accent colour can add some punch or pizzazz to an otherwise plain décor. This can be accomplished by echoing a dominant colour in your room in different ways. Using varying shades of the same colour around a room gives your eye someplace to travel. Consider using a common colour in cushions, artwork, throws, curtains or tabletop accessories.
